ABC Order to the 2nd Letter

I know it's been a while since I've made any posts...I am about to enter my 5th week of school so far this year!  I can't believe it...the time has FLOWN by!  But...as all teachers know, the beginning of the year is always crazy and it doesn't seem to slow down for quite a while.  I've been able to establish some routines in my class but feel we still have much to do.

While searching for an ABC Order to the 2nd letter activity I could do with my class in the next couple weeks, I found very little that satisfied me.  So...I did the only thing I could...I created one!  I love Roam the Room activities and really like being able to incorporate them as a station for reading and writing workshop.  With that in mind...my ABC Order to the 2nd Letter Roam the Room Activity was born!

I hope you find it as useful as I will.  I'll try to post some classroom reveal photos soon.  I know they're WAY overdue!

Enjoy your Labor Day weekend!

Reviewing Nouns!

I'm getting ready to go on vacation with my family tomorrow night and what is keeping me from sleeping? No, not all the things I need to remember to pack or making sure the house is secure before we leave but- yep...you guessed it...WORK! Ugh...I woke up at 3:15 a.m. and couldn't stop thinking about all the things I want to get finished before I head back to school in a few weeks.  So, naturally, I decided to get up and make myself useful.  So, here is a great Noun Detectives Roam the Room activity I just finished.  This would be great for first grade as well as (hopefully) a review activity for my second graders.  I'll probably use this early in the year to refresh their "summer brains" on what they learned way back in first grade.

Ok, now that I feel a little bit of accomplishment, I'm off to try to catch some z's before the mad rush of packing for a week-long vacation for six gets going.  Wish me luck!

FREE Online Book App!

Don't ALL teachers LOVE free stuff?!?!  Well- in case you haven't heard, all teachers can get a FREE educator account on an ipad app called Epic.  I found the link on Teaching Maddeness 2nd Grade with Amanda Madden.  She had a post on her iPad organization and mentioned this resource.  So, I googled it and found that to get to the free teacher site, you need to visit www.getepic.com/educators. There you can sign up and register your students for access to the site.
Most of the books are to be read by your students, but some can be read aloud to them.  Be sure to check your preferences to be sure you have access to age appropriate books for your class!

Enjoy!
